SAJA History and Constitution
Brief History
The first SAJA Congress after a revival effort launched in 2005 was held in Johannesburg- South Africa on 16- 17 August 2006. The Congress comprised of representatives from regional (SADC) media workers and journalists unions and associations. The Congress set out to formally establish SAJA: adopt a draft constitution for SAJA; discuss and adopt a policy frame work for SAJA; lay the basis for a SAJA programme of action; and elect new leadership.
SAJA was thus formally launched on 17 August 2006. Since its inception, SAJA has set out to tackle trade union development in the media industry in the SADC region, collective bargaining, the welfare of Journalists and media workers at the workplace and professional ethics
