Message from the SAJA President

In my capacity as Southern Africa Journalists Association, I would like to welcome you all to the Year 2011.

I hope you all share our collective aspirations and hope that the year will usher in a positive difference on issues pertaining to Press Freedom, Access to Information, media plurality and of course, the safety of Journalists.

We have just come from a year which the African Union had dubbed: Year of Peace and Security.

We look forward to an era where African governments, particularly in Southern Africa, will redouble their efforts to ensure safety and security for journalists and media workers in 2011.

Campaigns have already started in partnership with other regional groups to urge
African governments to sponsor and adopt a resolution which will guarantee the safety and protection of journalists on the African Continent.

From a SAJA perspective, we look forward to the strengthening of Unions and Associations representing journalists.

The strengthening of these affiliates should translate to effective trade union development resulting in collective bargaining agreements.

Thank You
Foster Dongozi
SAJA President
